People of the Osceola United Methodist Church,
Greetings in the name of our risen Lord, Jesus Christ! It is amazing to think that in a
few short weeks I will arrive to be your pastor! It seems like only a short while ago I
was attending church with you, worshipping with you, sharing meals with you, and
running around acting like a youth with the youth of the church.
I will be excited to meet or be reintroduced to all of you in person! After growing up in
the Mishawaka area and attending Mishawaka High School, you’ll have to be patient
with me as I learn to cheer for the Penn Kingsmen.
I do look forward to coming back “home” in some ways. I discerned my call to ministry
in the Osceola United Methodist Church under Pastor Brian Beeks. I went to seminary
just down the Road at AMBS in Elkhart. I did my student pastoring under Pastor Bob
Vale. I have served in Liberty Center, Brookston, Dyer, and am now ready to do
ministry as the pastor at Osceola United Methodist Church.
To share just a little about myself: I attended College at Purdue West Lafayette and
finished at the Purdue South Bend extension getting my BS as an EET. I worked 5 years
for the Robert Bosch Corporation in South Bend as a computer programmer/analyst.
After many conversations with Brian, a lot of prayer, 3 years of seminary and 3 years of
United Methodist RIM training, here I am in ministry.
When I’m not pastoring, you can find me walking, riding a bike, fishing, playing video
games, or on the rare occasion I have the time/money, tinkering with speakers or
amplifiers. The food loves of my life are pizza and pumpkin pie. Your local Brunos is
one of my favorites for pizza but Chicago style deep-dish stole a place forever in my
heart…most likely in the arteries.
I consider the greatest gift God could ever have given me (outside of salvation) is my
family. My wife is a great thinker, a hard worker and has been an incredible partner in
marriage and raising children. My children continually keep me young and on my toes.
They each have more abilities and goodness in them than I could ever have imagined. I
am truly amazed at the unique and wonderful people that God has blessed me with for
a family. Here’s a bit about each of them:
My wife Jennifer and I have been married for almost 29 years. We met in high school
and have been best friends ever since. She works part time for Walgreens as a
pharmacist. She enjoys reading and some gardening and has a unique gift for
organization. You can normally spot her by her bright smile and slightly shorter
stature.
Eli, 22 has quite the passion for the outdoors, especially streams. If he could be any
animal he would be a snapping turtle. He recently picked up photography and is having
quite a bit of fun learning that and capturing scenes from nature. Eli fishes most of his
free time and has caught 81 species of fish, 66 of which have been caught in Indiana. His
favorite stream on the planet is Deer Creek in Delphi Indiana. He can jump 30 feet
straight up in the air and run at 40 mph sustained.
Zoe is 21, and an upcoming junior at Indiana Wesleyan University. She is majoring in
English Education. In her free time she likes to read, listen to music, and make small
crafts. She loves author John Green and music group Twenty-One Pilots, and is a
friendship-bracelet-making fiend. Zoe has a strong sense of humor, plays trombone and
once ate 12 bananas in one sitting.
Sam is 19. She is a sophomore at Purdue studying environmental and natural resource
engineering. She plays saxophone in the Purdue "All-American" marching band. In her
free time she enjoys walking, playing hackey sack, and crafting. She once strangled a
sea lion with her bare hands simply because she “Didn’t like the way it wiggled its
whiskers at me”.
We have been praying over this time of change for both you as a church and our family.
We look forward to finding ways to not only minister to you, but to the greater area
around the Osceola United Methodist Church as well. It will be good to see you in
person soon.
Until then, all God’s blessings, all the freedom and presence of Jesus and all the power
of the Spirit be with you,
Pastor Devin Cook
